Instead of Burning Leaves...
Late fall is the time of year when many people are burning leaves. Numerous safety tips for burning leaves can be found online, but in the interest of fire safety and healthy air, I suggest a couple of alternatives.
Composting is a great substitute for burning that can potentially become a good rich soil for your yard. If you have a lawn mower with a mulching blade, break down the fallen leaves this way and spread them over your yard. While it might look a little messy, it is actually very good for the soil. You might also consider bagging leaves and leaving them for a recycling pick up. If your town doesn’t offer a recycling program, you will have to take them to a center yourself.
Of course, before you do any of this, rake your leaves into a big pile and fall into some fun!
